With Milan Fashion Week drawing to a close today, I thought I’d feature it as my third Conscious Fashion swap of fashion month. This week Milan, then onward to Paris!
Switch Milan Fashion Week
In New York, there were some ethical designers who didn’t didn’t make a fuss about their sustainable roots. In London, there were the usual bastions of ethical style, as well as some recent converts. And then there was Livia Fifth’s ongoing Green Carpet challenge, highlighted in among the catwalks of high fashion.
But in Milan, I have nothing to report when it comes to ethical fashion. It was, as ever, an indulgent affair during which the likes of Armani, Cavalli, Versace, Pucci, Fendi and many more sent their latest creations down the runway.
Such decadence has worked for Milan for decades. But just because you can, doesn’t mean that you should. Maybe it’s now time to look for a better way?
For Ethical Fashion Show Berlin
Luckily, sustainable fashion shows are beginning to pop up on the European continent as they have began to over here in North America. And one of the biggest that I’ve found is the Ethical Fashion Show Berlin.
This one, like the Trashion Fashion Shows and San Francisco Sustainable Fashion Week, has already happened for 2015 — back in July. But unlike those other events, this time there’s something scheduled that we can look forward to: the next show happens in January, 2016!
Until then, here’s a taste of what’s to come:
It’s definitely one of the more professionally produced of the burgeoning ethical and sustainable fashion events I’ve discovered, with an emphasis on ecology and social responsibility. This is one every ethical fashionista should keep their eye on!
Honourable Mention: Fair & Ethical Fashion Show Milano
Back in May, Milan had its own ethical fashion show as part of its World Fair Trade exhibition called Milan Fair City. And while there’s no word yet if this will be an annual event, here’s hoping that it will be, and that it will eventually eclipse the thoughtless consumption that fashion weeks like Milan’s promote.
Do you know of any other great European ethical fashion events coming up? Let me know in the comments!
